Support for Palliative Care

Care and Share works with two boots-on-ground entities in India – Trivandrum- based Pallium India (www.palliumindia.org) and Thrissur based Solace (www.solace.in) to address various issues of patients such as pain, education of their kids, deteriorated living conditions of the family, treatment expenses and financial rehabilitation.

In the palliative care field, we primarily work with two boots-on-ground entities in India – Trivandrum- based Pallium India (www.palliumindia.org) and Thrissur based Solace (www.solace.in). While Pallium India works across the spectrum of palliative care in India, Solace focuses on the total care of children below 18. Since 2009, Seattle Saptaswara has been organizing a Malayalam music event ”Ganolsavam” in an effort to raise funds to support palliative care patients’ families. In 2019, Saptaswara celebrated its 10 year anniversary with two mega shows, raising more than $70,000. With Ganolsavam-raised funds, Care & Share was able to donate a home care vehicle for Solace’s Calicut chapter.

Pallium India could support the education of more than 250 students of its enrolled patients at various capacities, ranging from primary classes to professional education. Three families either with psychological disorders or chronic kidney problems were living in very unsafe conditions. These families will soon have new houses because of the funds raised by Ganolsavam. The funds also helped a handful of other patients who were undergoing expensive treatments. Saptaswara had a remarkable journey in the last ten years, raising a whopping $215,000 during this time frame, positively impacting hundreds of families! The group also partnered with Rhythms Studio to deliver a Tamil show when Kerala was ripped apart with huge floods and hurricane in 2018.
